Waikato is a fantastic region boasting long sandy coastlines, New Zealand’s longest river and underground rivers in its world famous glow-worm lit caves.

Waikato canoeing and kayaking activities are a popular New Zealand pastime with activities ranging from going for a leisurely paddle in a canoe along the shore line to a heart-stopping white-water kayaking adventure down a cascading gorge.

Waikato canoeing and kayaking is a fantastic way to explore the dazzling beauty of New Zealand. Some canoeing and kayaking tours and companies offer a choice of hiring the canoes and kayaks out for a few hours, having a guiding tour, rowing lessons or going for a multiday trip down the river or along the coast.

Try the Boatshed Cafe, where you can hire equipment and paddle up the Waikato River, or hire a single or double kayak from Kayak Freedom Hire for anywhere from 3 hours to full day and explore Lake Karapiro and the local tributaries. See some amazing scenery, flora and fauna.
